Michelle Reuss


With a degree in Finance and Economics Michelle was well suited for her 18 years working in various account and financial settings. She has worked with Wells Fargo as an Assistant Branch Manager, managing sales goals, marketing, customer service, and personnel. As a Senior Finance Manager with American General a leading loan and insurance company managing staff in collections and loans. She understands many aspects of the financial world from banks, hospitals, and private enterprise. Project Management Experience: Vets Helping Vets, creating programs to help homeless veterans attain affordable housing, navigate VA benefits, and acquire needed supplies. Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, Michelle was a business liaison working to educate businesses on both the laws and benefits of hiring and maintaining their veteran employees. Operation Home Front, she assisted family members of deployed military in a variety of ways, including financial counseling, emotional support, fund raising and developing special programs to support the families. She did extensive fundraising, and planned activities for student veterans on the U of I campus. Military Affairs Association, directed the 2011 and 2012 Veteran’s Day Banquet dinner and programs. Working with event staff and other logistics to create two of the most successful banquets to date. Michelle’s ongoing support for veterans in a variety of programs includes Army Community Partnership Council, English River Outfitters, GIVE Program, Wells Fargo Military Banking which included special accounts and financial advising specifically to veterans, Iowa Troop Support, Honor Flights, and provided support specifically to female veterans. She also participated in the flag project through the U of I Athletics department with the 2012 Veteran’s Day Game flag ceremony.

Barbara Duder has been with the Iowa City VA Healthcare System for 6 years assigned to the Coralville Outpatient Clinic as a Healthcare Technician. Prior to joining the VA Hospital system, Ms. Duder previously worked for the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and was an adjunctive faculty member at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. During her 16 years in the United States Army and Iowa Army National Guard, Ms. Duder served in a number of roles including Squad Leader, Platoon Sergeant and Training Sergeant. Additionally, she taught at the Readiness Training Center in Camp Dodge courses including Front Line Leadership and Combat Life Saver.

In addition to her work life, Ms. Duder is very committed to Veteran’s issues on a local level, and serves with several organizations. Ms. Duder is a past Commander of The American Legion Post 29 in Washington and currently serves as the Post Chaplain. In addition to her post duties, Ms. Duder serves as the Secretary for the Department of Iowa Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation Committee and is the Women Veterans Coordinator for the 1st District of The American Legion. Other organizations she belongs to include: The American Legion Riders where she serves as Secretary, The 40 and 8, The Daughters of the American Revolution, and as a guest lecturer on the role of women in the Civil War to civic and educational organizations and serves on construction projects with the House of Heroes.

Ms. Duder makes her home in Washington, Iowa with her husband, Gary, and their three children, Ethan, Jacob and Emily.

Originally from Rockford, Illinois, John received his B.B.A. at the University of Iowa. A true sports fan, John spends his free time cheering on the Hawkeyes and builds his communication skills coaching competitive baseball for kids. He is the treasurer for the Iowa City Area Chamber of Commerce and Housing Trust Fund of Johnson County and member of the Iowa Medical Group Management Association.
